Costs

International students who come to the U.S. from another country with F-1 visa status must study full-time classes at PIE (in person). Studying full-time means taking 3 classes in your level (Reading/Writing + Listening/Speaking + Grammar). International students are also required to maintain health insurance through the university, and pay an International Student Services fee. 

Costs (For 1 Session)

Please note that the costs listed come from the university and do NOT include housing, food, books, or transportation. These are additional expenses that the student is responsible for. For budgeting purposes: the estimated cost of attendance including housing, transportation, food, and other living requirements for an F-1 student is estimated to be around $6,789 per session at PIE. 

Showing Proof of Financial Resources as an F-1 student: 

• Students who want to come to the U.S. with an F-1 student visa must have an I-20 form generated by IU Indianapolis.  The U.S. Government requires proof of financial resources for us to create the I-20 form.
• The proof of financial resources is just to show that you have enough money to support the cost of your program fee and cost of living while studying in the USA. 
• The proof of financial resources is typically a bank statement or a bank letter. The bank account can belong to you (the student) or to someone else. If the bank account belongs to someone else, they must also submit the sponsor form.

Students who are on an F-2 dependent visa or a B-1/B-2 visitor/tourist visa are allowed to study part-time only. Part-time study means taking 1 or 2 classes per session and cannot study full-time due to the regulations of those visas. 

The costs below are for 1 session in total. You can select one option from the table below. You do NOT need to select your classes right now. We will give you a placement test on the first day of orientation. Then, you can choose which class or classes you would like to register for.

All other visa categories are accepted at the PIE. We also accept residents of Indiana including those with green cards, citizenship, work authorization, asylum, TPS, parole, and more. If you have questions about your visa status and ability to study at PIE, please contact us.

The Upton Scholarship is available each session for continuing students only. Students can apply during their 2nd session at PIE or later. 

Details

• The Upton scholarship amount varies. It will cover a portion of your program fee (typically between $500 and $1,000). 
• You will be responsible for paying the rest of your tuition.
• The scholarship does not pay for any other fees, such as: health insurance, parking, gym membership, or International Student fees.

Requirements

• You have already studied at least 1 session at PIE. New students cannot apply for the Upton scholarship during their first session at PIE. 
• You received 80% or higher attendance in all classes the previous session.
• You received 80% or higher grades in all classes in the previous session.
• You showed motivation and responsibility in all PIE classes. We will ask your teachers.
• Students cannot apply if they have already completed Level 7 at PIE. 
• Students cannot apply if they are sponsored by their government (SACM, UAE, JSAF)

How to Apply

• Please email inpie@iu.edu and ask for the Upton Scholarship application (or stop by the front desk to pick up a paper copy). 

• The applications are available one month before the session starts. 

• Students are welcome to reapply each session. You must submit a new application each session and meet all the requirements above to be considered again.

The Resident Scholarship is available every session for both new and continuing students who are Indiana residents* with an intermediate or higher level of English. 

Details

• Amount of each award: $1,140.00 off the cost of program fee for 2 or 3 classes. This scholarship cannot be awarded to students taking 1 class only. 
• # of awards: 1-2 students per session
• You will be required to have an interview with the scholarship committee via Zoom. We will contact you to set up a time for the Zoom interview.

Requirements

• You are an Indiana resident (*Citizen, Permanent Resident, Green Card, Asylee, TPS, Parole, or Undocumented).
• You are 18 years of age or older.
• You have an A-2 level of English or higher.
• You will enroll in 2 or 3 classes at PIE. This scholarship does not apply to students taking 1 class only. 
• Students can receive the Resident scholarship 1 or 2 times. If they receive it 1 time, they will automatically be considered in the next session as long as they have maintained 80% or higher attendance and grades. 

How To Apply

1. Apply for the Program for Intensive English
2. Then, email us at inpie@iu.edu and request the "Resident Scholarship Application" and details. 
3. We will schedule a Zoom interview with you. 
4. The scholarship committee will decide one week before classes begin and alert you via email if you have been selected.

The Indy PIE Scholarship was created to help permanent residents of Indiana afford full-time study at the PIE. This scholarship is an automatic discount of $570 off the cost of the full-time program fee for those who qualify. 

Details

• The Indy PIE Scholarship is a 20% reduction in the full-time program fee.
• The normal price for full-time classes for 1 session at PIE = $2,850.00 
• The cost for 1 session of full-time study at PIE with the Indy PIE Scholarship = $2,280.00 

Requirements

• The Indy PIE scholarship is available to full-time students at the PIE who are residents of Indiana. This includes US Citizens, Permanent Residents, Green Card Holders, Asylees, Refugees, Parolees, Undocumented, or any other visa category listed under USCIS: "Immigrant Visa Categories" 

• To receive the Indy PIE Scholarship, students must elect to study full-time classes (Reading/Writing + Listening/Speaking + Grammar).  

How To Apply

• There is no formal application. Students who meet the requirements will be automatically awarded the Indy PIE Scholarship in their first session at PIE, after enrolling in full-time classes. 
• Students are eligible to receive the Indy PIE scholarship in each session if they maintain 80% or higher grades and attendance in all classes.
